Great Legends
So July 31st RFK Stadium 2pm est., it was all set for the 2004 MLS All-Star game. It was a good game, not too shabby! Although the All-Stars im talking about you wouldn't find in that game. No, they played earlier in the Celebration game. It was amazing to see what the old timers could do. Wynalda still had it in him, not to mention the wonderful work of those Salvadoreans: Raul Diaz-Arce and the little big talent of Mauricio Cienfuegos. Not to leave behind Hugo Perez who also scored in this wonderful event. The Celebration game was a wonderful sight to see, guys from Tab Ramos to the Columbian, Carlos "El Pibe" Valderama played once again against one another. They all had a great game and not to forget Jorge Campos who did some stellar saves and an assist.

East continues dominance over West in 2004 edition of the All-Star game
Washington D.C. - The West may be the stronger conference in MLS, but they still have trouble beating the East when it comes to the All-Star game. After two years of trying out different formats for the All-Star game, it finally returned to the Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference format and the Eastern Conference wasted no time and continuing their All-Star game dominance to improve to 4-1-1 in all games played in an East vs. West format. Prior to the East’s 3-2 defeat of the West, a 50 minute legends match took place in which the U.S. Legends, comprised mostly of Americans who played on the ‘94 World Cup team and went on to play in MLS, tied the World Legends, comprised of past foreign stars who played in MLS in an exciting 2-2 draw.

All-Stars? Can we call them that?
With the All-Star game coming up in 2 days, I thought I'd take some time to write about who should be an all-star and who shouldn't. Heres my list, I'm sure everyone has some other ideas but here are mine.

National Soccer Hall of Fame Celebrates Past, Present and Future of American Soccer
Oneonta, NY. – Just a five-hour drive from Fall River will bring you to the Mecca of soccer. The National Soccer Hall of Fame, located only 25 miles away from the Baseball Hall of Fame, celebrates the past, present and future of American soccer. After exploring the many exhibits in the five-year-old facility, it becomes apparent very quickly the Fall River area played a huge part in developing soccer in America. Not only are two Fall River teams enshrined, but also one of the best players in American soccer history, Billy Gonsalves, who played in Fall River, has his own section. Old programs from the Boston Shamrock Rovers (circa 1967) and Rhode Island Oceaners and other past area teams are also on exhibit.

U.S. advance, but show defensive holes against Grenada
ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada - The U.S. Men’s National Team defeated Grenada 3-2 and advanced to the semifinal round of World Cup qualifying, but it wasn’t as easy as expected. The 9th ranked U.S. surrendered two goals to the 138th ranked Grenada in the away leg, despite playing a man up for much of the match. Taking a 3-0 aggregate goal lead into the match, however, the U.S. easily qualified 6-2 on aggregate goals. Heavy rain caused a very wet playing surface and both sides had some struggles passing the ball through puddles.
