fair play or foul play
From what I know about people and what I know about sports, a simple game of football can never be assumed to be played fair when there are such high stakes involved. This is especially true when it comes to the world stage and World Cup. This past Saturday many witnessed two games of this spectacular event which epitomises the reason why they instigated “fairplay”. Here are the facts as I saw them on the 25th of June:

Casper calling FIFA
Well World Cup is just around the corner and the security is starting to be put into place. Lately the UK and FIFA are discussing the issues involving the latest “DAMBUSTERS” song which has taken the Brits by storm at all the games.

No not the vintage World War II airplanes which have just marked their 70th anniversary this week. But I have fond memories of building one in my youth. We are talking Chelsea vs Barcelona and fan control before this weeks’ European contest.

Hill of Hope
Whether you are sitting by the dock of the SF bay near the Ghandi statue, standing on the cliff edge of the Grand Canyon or looking up at the Joshua Tree in California…they all require a bit of travelling. An earnest sole is needed with an open mind as well as a good pair of Berghaus hiking boots…These are some of the local wonders of the world here in the USA which I suggest are a mandatory must see. I myself, a LJ Nomads Soccer Club alumni haven’t seen the Joshua Tree yet so you know what’s on my mind…But for the first time explorer, I suggest be prepared as they can be overwhelmingly emotional experiences…

Americans Abroad - First Half Analysis - Defenders (Part 1)
Defenders, Defenders, Defenders (Part 1)

Who says Goalkeeper’s are the best American export. No fewer than 14 American defenders are playing top flight football in Europe. Some are young and up and coming stars who are members of the US under-20 setup, others are former MLS stars, and some are from a group of youngsters who have established themselves working their way through the their club’s youth systems.

A flurry of action this weekend as we had few debuts as well as some great performances accross the pond. Brad Friedel had what is arguably the one of the best performances from a goalkeeper that I have seen in recent times as he stymied Manchester United. Clint Mathis returns from injury for Hannover 96. Kenny Cooper makes his debut for Academica on loan form Manchester United.
