Rapids Down United
DENVER, CO. - The Colorado Rapids defeated DC United at Invesco Field at Mile High Saturday night. Colorado bested United with a final score of 2-1 in front of a crowd of 31,443. The Rapids set an MLS record by going 16 consecutive games unbeaten at home.

DC United came in to the match sitting in a mid-table spot in the Eastern Conference. DC's last match resulted in midweek loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy 4-2. Freddy Adu did highlight that game with a spectacular display of dribbling that resulted in a goal.

Colorado's last match was also against the Galaxy. The Rapids faired better with a 1-1 draw at the Home Depot Center. Colorado sat at the bottom of the West Conference with a win, a loss, and four draws.

The match started with both teams showing quick pace. Rapids forward ZiZi Roberts nearly scored of a high ball deep in the box. Freddy Adu also come close to opening the scoring, but his breakaway was denied by Rapids 'keeper Joe Cannon.

ZiZi scored the first goal of the match for Colorado 13th minute. Mark Chung made a quick touch to the opposite side of the box to Jean Philippe Peguero. Peguero hit the ball towards the goal with a flashy bicycle kick. Roberts redirected the kick past DC 'keeper Troy Perkins and into the net.

Colorado maintained the majority of the possession during the first half. The Rapids lead game 1-0 after 45 minutes.

The second half started off quickly with United pulling level just two minutes in. Rookie midfielder Joshua Gros capitalized on lose Colorado defending and netted his first career MLS goal.

The Rapids would re-claim the lead merely four minutes later. Peguero hit a loose ball in the goal with a diving header. Chris Henderson marked his record setting 101st point with the assist. The club's all time point record was previously set by former Rapids star Paul Bravo who had achieved 100 career points.

DC United came very close to tying the match in the 81st minute. Substitute Ronald Cerritos rattled the post after receiving a cross from Earnie Stewart.

The hard fought match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Colorado Rapids.
The Rapids extended their home unbeaten streak to an MLS record of 16 league matches. Their last home defeat was against the MetroStars on May 17, 2003. Colorado moves up in the standings passing Dallas in the Western Conference.

The Rapids play their next match is against the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field on Saturday, May 29th at 6:30 p.m. MT.
