Metros fall with Ching's hand ball goal
The MetroStars were unable to hold on for any points, with 9 players missing due to injuries and international matches. A 3-1 loss would finish off the night in MLS, as none of the eastern teams came away with a win. Still in reach of 1st place, and several games at hand the MetroStars have a chance to pull back to 1st in the next few weeks.

The game started early, but neither team really came out pushing. During the start the Metros had a few chance, but then San Jose got into the game controlling most of the first half. Backup goalkeeper Zach Wells showed some great saves early on but nothing amazing. Zach wouldn't be able to hold on the shutout.

In the 25th minute Gilberto made a foul not too far from the goal, everyone knows who would step up to take it. Jeff Agoos would do a few taps and finally strike the ball, swinging it over and around the wall. Zach Wells had no chance to make a save and just had to watch it fly in.

About 5 minutes later, Zach Wells was almost the victim of a goal when Brian Ching smashed into Wells for a fair ball, Wells dropped the ball and it was saved on the goal line by Chris Leitch. No foul was called on the reckless attempt on the goalkeeper.

Zach Wells would get tested again big time, when a fault by Kenny Arena led to an open Brian Mullan who took a low shot into the box.

After a San Jose knee going into the back of Mike Magee a foul was called just outside of the box. A perfect chance for the MetroStars to draw level. Mark Lisi would step up to take it, and bend a low shot just around the wall. San Jose's keeper Jon Conway let up a rebound, and Jeff Parke scrambled and headed it in.

In the 79th minute came what tonight was all about. Brian Ching pulled a "Hand of God" on the MetroStars. A great cross into the box would find Ching as he stuck his arm out to control. He stumbled in the box, along with Zach Wells, but managed to get back up and give the Quakes the lead.

The night would be sealed with a horrible defensive effort by the MetroStars. Brian Mullan was able to stitch through the Metro defense, and launch a shot from the top of the box. Wells' view was screened by the legs of Kenny Arena and the low shot found the corner of the net to give the Quakes the 3-1 win.
