Metros clinch playoffs with 2-0 win
The MetroStars clinched the playoffs yet again, with an impressive 2-0 win versus Dallas Burn. The MetroStars started the game with a John Wolyniec goal coming in the 30th minute, and ended the game in style with a late minute break away goal from Cornell Glen. Columbus and the MetroStars are the only teams to have clinched a playoff spot this year in the east. The Metros are now 6 points away from DC in the standings, and as it looks New England won't make the playoffs. Although its too early to tell about the Revolution, the Metros will be in the playoffs this year.

The game started with Dallas getting most of the attack. Milton Reyes attacked from the right side, and the Metros were unable to control him, but soon enough it was the Metros turn to attack. From the midfield Guevara sent a ball out to Craig Ziadie on the right Ziadie beat Reyes, and cut inside to the box. Ziadie then made a low cross into the box and Wolyniec stuck is foot in to score the first goal.

Dallas wouldn’t stop attacking; eventually Dallas got their golden chance. After a big save by Jonny Walker, Brad Davis was all over the rebound, unfortunately he put the ball just wide on an open net. The MetroStars got their big break; the miss gave them the lead going into the second half.

A tight second half left nothing but a bitter taste for Dallas fans. No real attacks, other than corner kicks. Endless battles in the midfield gave nothing to cheer about for either fans during the second half. After a contained half, finally something had to break. In stoppage time, Cornell Glen fought and fought after being substituted on at the half.

Cornell won a ball at the midfield after battling with former Metro Steve Jolley. Glen sneaked his way through and won the foot race against Jolley. Glen smoothly ran towards goal, and finished his break away chance putting the ball past Dallas keeper Jeff Cassar.

The Metros clinched their 6th ever playoff spot since the opening MLS season. The MetroStars will finish off their regular season with 3 games left. Although they have no value, they are important if the Metros hope to do well in the playoffs, or take back first place.
