Revs season ends with another heartbreaker
Washington, D.C. – For the fourth year in a row the Revs saw their chances of winning a trophy end with the last kick of the match. Golden goals by the Los Angeles Galaxy in overtime cost the Revs the 2001 US Open Cup Final and the 2002 MLS Cup Final. Last year the Revs made it to the MLS Eastern Conference Final only to lose to Chicago in overtime. This year the Revs season was ended when Clint Dempsey saw his penalty kick saved by Nick Rimando in sudden death of a penalty kick shoot-out after the Revs had remained tied with D.C. United through regulation time, overtime and the first five penalty kicks. Many are already calling the game the best in Major League Soccer history. |

Reis beats Columbus, Revs advance to Conference Final
COLUMBUS, OH. – Matt Reis saved an MLS Playoff record two penalty kicks as he led the Revs to a 1-1 tie against Columbus giving them a 2-1 aggregate goal playoff victory over the Crew. Columbus won the Supporters Shield with a league best 12-5-13 record and were the first team who won the Supporters Shield to be knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. Reis recorded only four saves, but was clearly the man of the match. Besides his two penalty kick saves Reis dove backwards to deny Dante Washington a shot on an empty net. |
