Despite dominating, Revs come away with another loss
DENVER, CO. – A soccer game can’t be won if a team doesn’t take advantage of it’s chances and the New England Revolution proved that on July 4th, losing to Colorado 1-0 despite creating the majority of good opportunities and dominating the possession. After seeing Colorado goalkeeper Joe Cannon earn Man of the Match for his several great saves to deny the Revs from scoring, opposing goalkeepers have now earned Man of the Match 5 times in the Revs 8 losses. The losses can’t just be blamed on good goalkeeping however, as the Revs certainly haven’t helped their cause by some very poor shot placement. Just like in the other losses, the Revs helped the goalie out by sending several point blank shots directly at him. Now with a 3-8-3 record and two games out of a playoff spot again, the Revs head into the away leg of a home and away series with the Chicago Fire that could see the Revs either leap frog the Fire into fourth or fall much deeper into last place. |

Nightmare game ends 2-6
What could be called one of the worst games this season unfolded this holiday weekend as the Metros took on D.C. at their home in that stadium called RFK. The Metros would fall in a 6-2 blow out, even though they scored the first goal an early mistake by Jonny Walker put the Metros down a goal, and they were never able to come back. |

Player Profile: Rookie Sensation Clint Dempsey
The eighth pick of the 2004 Major League Soccer SuperDraft has earned a starting spot in the New England Revolution’s line-up and is considered by many the early favorite for rookie of the year. Clint Dempsey is currently second on the Revs in scoring with 4 goals and is one of only three players to have played in all 13 of the Revolution’s matches this season. The rookie midfielder/forward is only the third player in team history to earn a starting spot in his first or second game and leads all of the top ten picks from this year’s SuperDraft in minutes played. Dempsey comes into Sunday’s match against Colorado with a three game goal-scoring streak despite playing both forward and defensive midfield in different games during that stretch. With stats like this it’s easy to see why the 21 year old from Nacogdoches, Texas is attracting so much attention from media and fans. |
