Another Victory
With a goal in the 59th minute from Carlos Ruiz, the Galaxy were in the lead of another game. Then another goal from Ruiz fourteen minutes later gave Los Angeles a two goal lead. Galaxy's rookie Joseph Ngwenya made his first professional start. His initiative led to Ruiz's opening goal. Ngwenya was brought down by Columbus' Eric Denton as he penetrated the right side of the Crew penalty area and referee Ricardo Salazar pointed to the penalty spot. Ruiz placed the spot kick to the right of goalkeeper Jon Busch for the lead.

Columbus could have scored the equalizing goal in the 72nd minute as the Galaxy cleared the ball off the goal line on two occasions. Columbus's foward Jeff Cunningham(CLB) dribbled the ball into Los Angeles penalty box, going toward Kevin Hartman, but Ryan Suarez(LA) slid to clear the ball.

In the 81st minute, Carlos Ruiz almost added another goal to score board by placing a header high of the crossbar.

Two minutes later, Ruiz foiled the Crew's plans with a spectacular goal. The Guatemalan player started the play by feeding left back Paul Broome on the left flank. Broome then dribbled by Oughton, sending a cross into the center of the box where Ruiz perfectly timed a right-footed volley through the legs of defender Robin Fraser and past Busch.

The Columbus Crew also had their opportunities to break the scoreless deadlock in the first half through dribbling bursts by Cunningham and the aerial prowess of rookie Chad Marshall on set pieces.

Carlos Ruiz was the MLS man of the match. The final score for the game was Los Angeles Galaxy 2, Columbus Crew 0. Los Angeles go head to head with the New England Revolution, May 1st at Gillete Stadium.
