Metros get burned 3-0 to Fire
|
After starting off the season with a 2-0-0 start, and reaching a tie before facing Chicago, the Metros fell letting up 3 goals against a team which struggled to score their first 4 games. Chicago's win puts them at first of the east after week 5 of MLS. The MetroStars will try to regain strength as they take on San Jose next weekend.
After preforming well in the opening minutes the Metros weren't able to keep it up the whole game. The game started with a fast pace as Fabian Taylor got a ball deep in the box, but failed to put the shot away. Chicago made the board early of a great one-time pass from Chris Armas to Dipsy Selolwane, who found himself in an easy position to score, Eddie Pope was unable to prevent a shot, and Jonny Walker had to watch the ball roll slowly into the back of the net.
The first half from then on was all Fire, as many chances became misses, but the Metros had one perfect chance late in the half. Mark Lisi set up a shot for himself after working past the Fire defense. Lisi was deep in the box as he took a shot from an impossible angle, which beat Henry Ring, but saw nothing but wood work. The MetroStars half got worse as defender Jeff Parke was taken out at the half due to an injury, as a replacement Tenywa Bonseu would have to take the field.
Things could only get worse as early in the second half Chicago made it two, as Damani Ralph scored from a pass by DaMarcus Beasley reached Ralph after Bonseu fell, and was unable to intercept the pass.
The Metros pushed hard to get back in the game as Fabian Taylor missed a shot from a perfect pass from John Wolyniec, Taylor had an almost empty net, but miss hit the ball.
Many other failed attempts led to frustration, as the Metros came out with 3 yellows cards. The game was going horrible, and it got even worse. Bonseu failed to stop a pass from the Beasley, leaving Ante Razov free in the box, Walker had no chance as Razov cracked a hard shot into the net.
Walker may have let three goals up, but later in the match he made an amazing world class save, a perfect header from Ralph was going for goal. Walker leaped across the goal, and made an amazing kick save to prevent the goal. After great attempts from all the MetroStars they couldn't seem to make anything happen.
