Long Shot from midfield gives the Galaxy the win
|
In the 26th minute, Fire striker Damani Ralph brought down a looping header in the box, sidestepped Galaxy 'keeper Kevin Hartman and tried to slot home it from a sharp angle, but Suarez slid in behind the 'keeper to hook the ball off the line.
In the 39th minute, when DaMarcus Beasley found him in the box with a cross along the ground, Hartman got down well to knock Razov's one-time effort away.
In the 79th minute, Herzog played a hopeful long ball forward in Ruiz's direction, and Ring came out well out of his penalty area to beat the Guatemalan international to the ball. But the 'keeper's clearance was poor and went directly to Kirovski in the center circle, and the Galaxy striker sent a first-time shot high over the retreating Ring and floating into the unguarded goal for one of the longest goals in MLS history.
In the 89th minute the fire could have come up with the equalizing goal but when Ralph fired home on the turn, but his shot clipped the heel of Kelly Gray before crossing the line and the Fire defender was ruled to be in an offside position.
The Galaxy(7-5-3) go back to the Home Depot center to go against the San Jose Earthquakes on July 4 and the Fire take a trip to Columbus and go against the Crew.
