Nightmare game ends 2-6
What could be called one of the worst games this season unfolded this holiday weekend as the Metros took on D.C. at their home in that stadium called RFK. The Metros would fall in a 6-2 blow out, even though they scored the first goal an early mistake by Jonny Walker put the Metros down a goal, and they were never able to come back.

It took just 18 minutes for the scoring gates to open. A great chip from Amado Guevara sent Eddie Gaven free on a run. The ball bounced it's way towards goal and Gaven chipped it just over Troy Perkins who was at the edge of the box challenging.

D.C. United would come back to tie it in the 30th minute when a well taken corner kick from Earnie Stewart found the head of D.C. defender Ryan Nelsen. Nelsen was unmarked and was able to knock the ball into the far corner.

In the 37th minute a casual pass to Jonny Walker led to a nightmare day. As Walker was put in a tight spot he tried to dribble out be ended up losing control, the ball rolled towards net, and Jaime Moreno made a quick run to knock the ball in. D.C. had the lead for the first time.

Around the 40th minute the first half would get worse. A fast build up from D.C. sent Dema Kovalenko on a run on the right side. He crossed a ball into the box which found the feet of Alecko Eskandarian, at the time no one was able to stop it, nor Walker or the defenders.

The second half didn't start the way the Metros wanted as Stewert was again making the magic happen. He was left alone in the box after a great chip. Walker did all he could but had no chance of making a save. D.C. was up by 3 on the Metros.

Next to come would be just what the Metros were looking for. Eddie Gaven beat about 3 defenders on the left side, and was able to send a cross into the box on which Fabian Taylor connected to and was able to knock the ball past Perkins.

70 minutes into the game and D.C. again had more tricks on the way. Moreno was running in the box on the right side and sent a low pass across to find Eskandarian who knocked in his second goal of the day.

Just outside the box D.C. was awarded with a free kick. Ben Olsen was the one to take it and knocked it right through the wall. Walker had no chance as he tried to make the save but was unable. The MetroStars day would end 2-6.
