Great Legends
So July 31st RFK Stadium 2pm est., it was all set for the 2004 MLS All-Star game. It was a good game, not too shabby! Although the All-Stars im talking about you wouldn't find in that game. No, they played earlier in the Celebration game. It was amazing to see what the old timers could do. Wynalda still had it in him, not to mention the wonderful work of those Salvadoreans: Raul Diaz-Arce and the little big talent of Mauricio Cienfuegos. Not to leave behind Hugo Perez who also scored in this wonderful event. The Celebration game was a wonderful sight to see, guys from Tab Ramos to the Columbian, Carlos "El Pibe" Valderama played once again against one another. They all had a great game and not to forget Jorge Campos who did some stellar saves and an assist.

This game came to show that we are forever in great debt with these guys for letting us know soccer for what it is today here in the United States, without these guys MLS would not have gone as far as it has, and not to under-estimate it is still growing. It was a great game from start to finish, full of excitement for the players for whom said that it had been a while since they last saw each other and of course a reminder to the fans of what they were and still are capable of doing. Soccer here in the United States has evolved beautifuly, at alot in part and thanks to them. When it comes to it, these guys weren't just the past of MLS, they have helped create the future of what will be perhaps one day the nations number one sport.

Eric Wynalda a inductee of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, played six years with MLS. Starting off his MLS carrer with the San Jose Clash, and made history by being the fist to score a goal in the history of Major League Soccer. Wynalda also went on to play Miami Fusion, New England Revolution and ending his professional career with the Chicago Fire, leaving fans there with great memories, one MLS Cup Championship in 1998, and so far the Fire's only championship.

Another well known player and intucted into the hall of fame this year as well is Paul Caligiuri. Paul joined Major League Soccer and the Columbus Crew in 1996 after playing overseas. Paul joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in 1997 and there he would stay until he retired in 2001. Paul Caligiuri would most be remembered for "Goal Heard Round the World" as he helped the United States Men's National Team to its first World Cup in 40 years.

These are just two of the many, many guys who have given their all to this sport and helped MLS grow. We owe them a great deal of respect, plus they do put on a great show. From this game there are a few more to be intucted in the hall, I'm sure, great players, great legends, that will forever be remebered. Freddy Adu your job is well cut out for you.

Well well, here's the list of the teams:

World Legends: Jorge Campos, Robert Warzycha, Richard Gough, Martin Vasquez, Frank Yallop, Michael Emenalo, Marco Etcheverry, Mo Johnston, Mauricio Ramos, Carlos Valderrama, Luis Hernandez, Peter Nowak, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Giovannie Savarese, Raul Diaz-Arce, Carlos Hermosillo

Note* Only USA Legend to not play was Cle Kooiman

And if you missed the game the final score was 2-2. The MVP of the legends game was Jorge Campos. For those of you who didnt see it, you can at MLSnet.COM
