The Burning Point
As you all can see, it’s been a very so, so week for the Dallas Burn Fans and it’s group of Supporters.
First of all, our game last Saturday against the weakened Colorado Rapids was the most “dramatic” game in the Burns 2004 Season. With 2 men down, Eddie Johnson pulled the Burn out of the 2 men disadvantage hole and led us to victory 1-0. Did us Burn fans expect this surprising victory? No. I mean when two of your team’s important players are handed a red card all you can do is lay your head down in disbelief and expect the opponent to score, but that didn’t happen.
And just when us Burn supporters thought we were on the “winning side” of things, New England derails us 3 goals to zip at the Cottonbowl. A pretty disappointing performance on the part of Ronnie O’ Brien, and the rest of the Dallas Burn team. Not to mention the poor attendance by the Dallas Burn Supporters at the Cottonbowl, how low can attendance get? Probably the lowest attendance record in Dallas Burn team history. I hate to be harsh, but it’s true. Hopefully attendance can improve next time the Burn returns to the Bowl.
But after our disastrous performance against the Revolution, Hunt Sports Group announced the long awaited “makeover” for the Dallas Burn. New team name, new team logo, new color scheme, and of course, our Stadium at Frisco, Texas. At first the Burn Supporters had divided opinions about our “makeover” but now that our “makeover” has been announced, we all know what we are in for come 2005. We are in for a new change, new era, and a new experience that will hopefully enhance Texas Soccer in the coming years.
Now, we head over to the Meadowlands to face Bob Bradley’s Guevara and Gaven less Metrostars. Let’s not forget that Cory Gibbs will not be there for the Burn, instead he will be joining Bruce Arena and the U.S National Team. On the other hand, Simo Valakari and Brad Davis will return for the Burn following their suspensions. Hopefully we can comeback from our disastrous performance against New England and prove to everyone once again that the Dallas Burn is a top contender in the MLS.
