D.C. United top MetroStars 1-0
The MetroStars once again fell to D.C United after a hard fought match. D.C. won from a Freddy Adu goal that deflected off of Jeff Parke. The lone goal came early in the first half, and the Metros were unable to come back. Magee went off early with a concussion, and was unable to come back. Magee's absence may have affected the Metros overall play, but either way the Metros failed to clinch a 2nd place spot in the eastern division.

The gameís instensity started early on, when it was all MetroStars in the opening minutes. Early into the game, around the 8th minute Mike Magee sent a great pass into open space to John Wolyniec. Wolyniec was unable to score, but he poked the ball past D.C. keeper Nick Rimando, the ball made itís way towards goal, but was cleared off the line just inches away from going in.

After the Metros had dominated the opening minutes D.C. got a free kick. The ball hit the wall and then found its way all the way to Freddy Adu. Adu brought it down on his thigh, and took a crack at goal. It hit MetroStars defender Jeff Parke and redirected itself in. The MetroStars found themselves down early in a game they had been dominating.

Just twenty minutes in, Mike Magee went down for the second time. MetroStars trainer came out, and Magee left the game with a minor concussion. In his place Cornell Glen would enter the game. Minutes later, an offside by D.C. lead to a riot from both teams. Jonny Walker went to calm things down, but ended up tossing down a United player. Although he didnít mean to, it lead to more troubles as both teams ended up pushing each other around. Although the rivalry broke out, no cards were given.

In the 33rd minute the MetroStars were given a golden opportunity. Amado Guevara stole a ball from Ezra Hendrickson, and raced towards goal, he was one on one with Rimando, but was unable to score. Guevara shot to his left, when the lower right was open. Rimando was able to come up with a big time save.

The second half turned out dull, as the Metros could do nothing but knock the ball across the field. No big attacks, nor excellent shots. The MetroStars found themselves in a hole, with time ticking away, there was nothing they could do as D.C. United held on for the win.

The MetroStars are in action next weekend as they take on the Columbus Crew. A loss by Columbus Wednesday, and a win versus them on Saturday will give the Metros a golden chance to take over first place.
