Revs beat defending champs, extend winning streak to 6 games
FOXBORO, MA. - The New England Revolution defeated D.C. United by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. Taylor Twellman scored the lone goal of the game for New England as the Revs remained the only team still unbeaten this season. The Revs, now nine points up in the Eastern conference after only seven games, have beaten the defending Champions twice already this season.

DC took control of the match early on and had the majority of the possession throughout the first half. The Revs defense, however, held strong, limiting DC to only a few half chances.

DC had their best chance in the 8th minute, when Mike Petke headed a Freddy Adu cross on frame. Michael Parkhurst, however, was there to clear it off the line with his head.

Soon after, Taylor Twellman saw a close-range header off a Pat Noonan cross bang off the post.

The sides looked more even in the second half and Taylor Twellman got the Revs off the mark in the 59th minute. After beating three defenders, Pat Noonan sent a square ball into the box to Taylor Twellman. Twellman’s first shot was saved by Rimando, but the rebound fell right back to Twellman, who slotted it home for his fourth goal of the season.

Steve Ralston had a good chance to put the Revs two goals up in the 74th minute, when he played a give-and-go with Twellman in the box. Ralston’s shot however was just high of the net.

“I can't remember them having a chance where I was saying, ‘They should have scored,” said Head Coach Steve Nicol after the match. “They had a couple of half-chances, and certainly we had a couple of half-chances as well.”

The Revs next travel to New Jersey to face the Metrostars. The game can be seen live at 4PM on May 21st on ESPN2.
