Revs end regular season with 1-0 victory over Fire
|
Foxboro, MA. - Having already secured the top spot in the East, the New England Revolution played a game with little meaning, but came out on top with a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire. Taylor Twellman scored the lone goal of the match to up his goal total to 17 and secure the MLS Golden Boot as the top scorer of the season. The Revolution used the match to build consistency and played all of their available starters with only Pat Noonan and Daniel Hernandez out due to minor injuries. Taylor Twellman scored the game’s only goal in one of the few chances of the first half, when midfielder Jose Cancela dribbled through several defenders before sending a pass to Taylor Twellman at the top of the box. Twellman hammered it into the upper left corner for his 17th goal of the season. Chicago had a few chances before halftime, but Reis came up big to deny all of them. Neither team created too many dangerous chances after halftime, and the match ended with the Revs still up 1-0. The Revs next face the Metrostars in the away leg of the MLS Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, October 22 at 7PM ET.
