Revs fall 1-0 to Wizards
Kansas City continued their perfect record of three wins in three games at the expense of the Revolution. With a little help from the referee, Kansas City defeated the defending Eastern Conference Champions and pulled five points ahead of them in the standings. For the second time in a row, the Revsí offense failed to produce a goal. Midfielder Steve Ralston missed the match with a groin strain sustained playing for the US National Team against Jamaica. Last yearís Rookie of the Year, Michael Parkhurst, made his return from injury for the Revs and played the full 90 minutes.

Jimmy Conrad, who missed the first two games of the season with an injury, scored the lone goal of the match in just the fourth minute. The Revs thought they had earned a goal kick when Andy Dorman chased down Davy Arnaud and got the ball out of play. The linesman ruled the ball last touched Arnaud and was a goal kick, but referee Marcel Yonan overruled the decision and gave Kansas City a corner kick. On the ensuing corner, Jack Jewsbury sent the ball into the penalty area where Jimmy Conrad headed the ball over goalie Matt Reis and defender Joe Franchino for his first goal of the season.

Just three minutes later the Wizards were gifted a great chance to double their lead when Yonan awarded them a penalty kick. Parkhurst, who committed a league record low 6 fouls last season, was called for a foul on US International Josh Wolff. Though there was clearly some contact, Wolff seemed to leave his feet very easily. Wolff took the resulting penalty, but was denied by a diving save from Reis.

Reis came up big again in the 23rd minute, this time denying Conrad with a diving save after Conrad had redirected a Josh Wolff cross on frame with a header.

The Revs gained more creativity in their attack at halftime by bringing on Jose Cancela for Pat Noonan. Just seconds after coming on Cancela sent a perfect pass to Clint Dempsey, whose shot was pushed wide by Wizards keeper Bo Oshoniyi for a Revolution corner kick. The Revolution finally put one in the back of the net in the 47th minute off that corner, when Cancelaís cross found itís way to the feet of Andy Dorman. Dorman shot low and hard for the far corner and beat Oshoniyi, but his goal was discounted by a Taylor Twellman hand ball prior to the ball reaching Dorman.

The Revolution continued to press for the rest of the half, but failed to create any quality chances as they failed to connect with a striker on several crosses leading to the end of regulation.

With just seconds remaining, the Revs had a shot at a penalty when Marshall Leonard was taken down from behind in the box. Though there was clearly more contact than the earlier penalty Yonan awarded, he waved away the Revolution protests this time.

The Revs next head back to Foxboro for their first home game of the season when they take on the struggling Chicago Fire at 3PM on Sunday April 30th.
